Welcome to the Senior Room

Welcome to the page for the senior room. This year we have fourth, fifth and sixth classes in the senior end of the school. As we move towards preparing children for the transition to secondary school we try to facilitate the a shift towards independent learning. We give a voice to the children as they gain the skills needed to take charge of their progress.
We love to get out and about; whether it be heading away on a field trip to explore the resources around us or making use of the great space we have in school. We enjoy taking on projects where the children can really immerse themselves in a topic and while the content becomes more abstract at the senior end of the school we love to make up games and learn through hands on activities wherever possible.
Below is the homework list as a back up in case the school diary disappears and a link to some resources that might be useful.
At the end of the page we keep you updated with what we’ve been up to over the last while.

What We’ve been up to…
Studying Rocks
After studying rocks in our geography book we were given the challenge of identifying different types of rocks based on their characteristics. We are happy to report that we went three for three in identifying not only whether the rock was sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic but also the exact type of rock it was!!!

Our Still Lives

Making Charcoal
This week we learned how to make charcoal and a little bit of the science of how it’s made. We then wrote a procedural writing piece on how we did it and we’re looking forward to using the finished product during our next art class!
